Hicham Lahlou, 20 years of Design and a year 2015 under the honors

Hicham Lahlou, a new figure of the new generation of Design, he is a part since two decades of the worldwide Design & creation sphere. His refined creations are always impregnated with cultural & identity references, subtly integrated in some modern lines through his very personnal pencil touch that allowed him to be noticed in this codified and elitist field.

Hicham Lahlou celebrates in 2015 his 20 years in the sphere of Design. Gravitating in the world from Morocco, he is a hyperactive of Design, cumulating projects, creations, initiatives & developping seductive idea beyond the borders.

Le Royal Mansour Marrakech devotes to him, the 9 Decembre 2015, during ‘Le Festival du Film de Marrakech’ a night to celebrate this anniversary spotted under the mark of creation.

The occasion to celebrate the atypical career of the one who transcended the lines in every sense of the term and who gave a meaning and a face to the very term of Design. The most splendid palace of Morocco, unclassifiable by his splendor, honoring the most talented Designer, himself out of category, see ahead an attesting sign that there is obviously a Moroccan Exception, able to distinguish himself by combining Art, excellence & talent. Very often called as the spearhead of contemporary design in Morocco, has not only become an emblematic figure of design in Africa and the Arab world, but is also one of the major names of world design and has created collections for prestigious international brands. He developped lines of urban furnitures, signed concepts for hotels well acclaimed, illustrated his artist talent, interior architect, product Designer & Graphic Designer in Branding & Packaging and also in commercial architecture including strategic design. He made himself a name and a signature in furniture design, table & objects art by signing collections for world class brands such as Ecart International, Daum, Lip, Aquamass, Airdiem, Nodus Rugs… through a creative process that combines his sensitivity for history & civilizations, to modernism and universality of creation in general

The Africa Design Award & Days projects (ADA & ADD) he founded in 2014 which he masterfully headed, made positioned him a leader of African Design. In 2014, he launched Africa Design Award during The New York Forum Africa where a design panel was dedicated to him. He organized the Africa Design Days as a real conductor, among the most noticed events of the year, in Morocco then at Paris. An international platform of African Design, ADA & ADD represents now a new hub of design in the continent.

Presented during the Paris Design Week Maison & Objets 2015 as well as La Cité de la Mode, The event met a great success.

Hicham Lahlou positioned ADD by highlighting a new generation of Designers as well as experienced Designers from the African continent.

At 2015, Hicham Lahlou is named as a co-curator of the design exhibition AKAA Fair (Also Known As Africa) besides the American Aaron Kohn founder of the African Museum from Johannesburg, he is also nammed as an Expert Design by WIPO (World Intellectual property organization) and OMPIC (Moroccan office of Industrial and Commercial Property) during the project Namadij, by participing as a speaker in November 2015 at Dakar during the panafrican Ministerial Conference for an emerging Africa organized by OMPI/GENEVE where he also was invited to present the project NAMADIJ in front of the 257 member states

2015 also represents for Hicham Lahlou a historical entrance to the prestigious museum the «Vitra Design Museum » in Germany » since one of his major work is exposed for the occasion of a World expo, entitled as « Making Africa – A continent of Contemporary Design », another work is shown too in the very prestigious « Guggenheim Museum Bilbao » from the 28 october 2015.

Hicham Lahlou is figuring among the members of the advisory committee of the exhibition « Making Africa ».

His hookah Disco Pipe created for the luxury french international brand Airdiem integrated the same year the permanent collection of Islamic Art of the Victoria & Albert Museum London, which is considered the biggest of the world.

This year will close with a celebration in the Royal Mansour Marrakech, an evening to celebrate and consecrate the 20years of creation of the international Designer. The Occasion to celebrate an unusual career of the one who knew how to transcende the lines in every sens of the term and who gave a meaning to the face of Design in Morocco, in Africa, in the Arab World and in the world.

Highlight : Hicham Lahlou is knighted by France

The famous Franco-Moroccan Designer, Hicham Lahlou just received the distinction of ‘Knight of the order of Arts & Letters’ by the French Republic, alike many great personnalities from the world of arts and letters. A true consecration for the sake of his international course, his ideas, his vision and his 20 years of efforts, value and creativity.

The ceremony of decoration wa held the Tuesday 9 February in the residence of the ambassador of France at Rabat when he was honored by the French Republic by getting the insignia of the distinction of ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ from the French Ambassador M.Jean-François Girault

Hicham Lahlou Designer just received from the Reverend Jessie Jackson and the new Ambassador of Morocco in Australia Karim Medrek saturday 18 march evening the prestigious Award of a New Leader of Tomorrow 2016 from the Crans Montana Forum @ Dakhla Morocco/Universale Fondation, with a several leaders from Africa and others countrys, also with H.E Princess Hend F Al Qasemi of the United Arab Emirates.

Africa Design Days Dakar 2016 will be presented during the Subabiennale au Cicad of Dakar in the Dak’Art Biennale of Dakar
